🦉🦋🌱 Volunteer Next Week
Saturday - March 21st, 2026Tuesday, March 24th, from 9-11am!
We have 6/15 volunteers who've RSVP'd so far:
Daniel De Zordo
Heather Cowper
Diane Wang
Zheng Wen
Sue Emory
Sarah Chan
If you'd like to join them, here are the requirements:
☀️ Wear sun protection (sunscreen + hat) and close-toed shoes and pants that cover your legs (to avoid scratching yourself on the prickly weeds)
💧 Bring a water bottle (and eat a hearty breakfast for energy)
👨👧 Be at least 12 years old, and accompanied by a guardian if under 18
🧤 Gloves will be provided as well but it's highly recommended you bring your own.
⛏️ The rest of the tools, such as shovels, pick axes, wheelbarrows, etc. will be provided.
If you've got your own tools that you love to use or would like to share, you're welcome to bring them! Some volunteers bring knee pads/a stool for added comfort.
Email me back if you'd like to sign up!
This is how you get the link to the online waiver and specific instructions on where to meet the others!
We planted 20/60 species-specific, California native plants that I purchased from Watershed Nursery in Richmond.
We had to roll 'n' chip at the Friday event, so that's why we didn't get to planting the other 40,
which the group next week will start with.
I ordered and added the same metal tags Sarah Beaver used for the milkweed, because they are holding up well!
This way we can better track which species of plants are surviving and thriving to double down on planting them.
Here's where we planted the 20 we did get into the ground:
Mathew is watering here using the orange buckets he put 2 holes into on the bottom.
You can see I also picked up 4 bags of Cactus & Succulent Soil to backfill new plants,
but they gave me hella splinters so watch out! 😵
We also rolled 'n' chipped this area on the other side of the sunflowers.
The Googlers had a lot of guidance on how to chip around our plants from Benny, Mathew, and Heidi so don't worry!
I'll share more about this month's events in the next video update! 🎥
Thank you so much for helping me save our burrowing owls and migratory monarch butterflies!
It's been the best birthday week I've had in a long time! 🙇🏽♀️🦉🦋
