Charter Flight History - The 2010's

Summer 2010

Summer 2010 was set to see losses again in Humberside's range of charter flights, but on a far smaller scale than previous Summer's. The only lost service was the Tuesday Palma flight. The loss of this service, plus the transfer of the Thursday Palma flight to Air Europa meant that while the Spanish airline returned, Thomson Airways ceased regular services to Humberside Airport after over 10 years of service as Britannia, Thomsonfly and later Thomson Airways. On the plus side h4u increased the operating period and frequency of their Dalaman services; a new Friday frequency also bringing a new airline to Humberside, Sky Airlines of Turkey. Meanwhile B767's also made a welcome regular return to Humberside, with Thomas Cook Airlines using a B767-300ER to Dalaman. B767's had last been regular vistors to Humberside in Summer 2004 when Britannia sent a Leeds Bradford based B767-200 to operate flights from Humberside in May and June.

However the July collapse of Goldtrail Holidays led to the loss of the Bodrum route shortly before it was due to resume for the Summer, and one Dalaman flight. Goldtrail had briefly introduced another new airline to Humberside Airport, Turkuaz Airlines.

Winter 2010-11

For the second winter in a row, Humberside Airport saw no regular charter flights, with just the occasional special departure providing the only charter activity.

Summer 2011

Another Summer, another set of reductions to the charter network, and another tour operator collapse. Greece and Cyprus saw major reductions as Thomas Cook pulled their weekly charter flights to both Heraklion and Larnaca, while Olympic Holidays reduced the operating period of their services. This came after the collapse of airline Europcypria; Olympic Holidays used Fly Hellas, a new airline to Humberside, for their remaining flights. A planned new charter flight to Enfidha, Tunisia with Thomas Cook Holidays was cancelled following the removal of the country's President from power in a revolution. h4u had planned to reintroduce a Bodrum service for Summer 2011 but this didn't materalise, and they collapsed in early August - following the completion of customer repatriation flights in mid-August Onur Air's services into Humberside therefore ceased.

Winter 2011-12

Another winter, and again no regular charter flights from Humberside Airport.

Summer 2012

More reductions for charter flights from Humberside Airport in Summer 2012 with just 4 weekly flights operating as Thomson Holidays left Humberside; they dropped their remaining weekly Palma charter after offering holidays from Humberside since 1992. Furthermore Thomas Cook Holidays cancelled their Antalya departure and Olympic Holidays their Larnaca departure. Changes in operating airlines saw Humberside Airport welcome Aegean Airlines for the first time, and re-welcome Pegasus Airlines.

Winter 2012-13

Again no regular charter flights were offered from Humberside Airport.

Summer 2013

Summer 2013 reversed the trend of decline, with an increase in the number of charter flights offered. The airport arranged two new weekly flights to Alicante and Palma, operated by Volotea using B717's, a new airline and aircraft type for Humberside. Tour Operators for the flights included start-up JetXtra, Low Cost Holidays, Humberside Airport Travel, Teleticket and the Monarch Group. A new flight to Enfidha was also started by Nouvelair on behalf of Thomas Cook; Nouvelair returning to Humberside for the first time since 2006. Thomas Cook Airlines ceased to serve Humberside, with Thomas Cook's Palma flight being transferred to new-to-Humberside Orbest, and Pegasus were replaced by Freebird Airlines, another new-to-Humberside operator, on the Dalaman flight. One negative however was the loss of Olympic Holiday's Heraklion flight.

Summer 2014

After a Summer of growth in 2013, 2014 saw a small decline the charter offering available from Humberside. Thomas Cook dropped their Palma service, while jetXtra reduced the number of weeks their Alicante and Palma charters operated for and switched to smaller BA Cityflyer Embraer aircraft instead of a Volotea B717. Thomas Cook also switched from Freebird to Pegasus for their weekly Dalaman service.

Winter 2014-15

No regular weekly charter flights operated again from Humberside Airport this winter, although at one stage a 6 week series of ski flights to Berne, Switzerland was on sale for January and February. Had the flights gone ahead they would have been operated by Intersky for Topski Swiss. jetXtra did organise a couple of Alicante flights over the Christmas/New Year period using BA Cityflyer.

Summer 2015

After consolidation in the UK tour operator market, two major groups have remained; Thomas Cook and TUI/Thomson. For Summer 2015, Humberside said goodbye to Thomas Cook but welcomed back Thomson, with a weekly Palma service operated by Germania, a new airline for Humberside. This was the first full season service from Humberside since 2011. The loss of Thomas Cook however did see Dalaman and Enfidha disappear from the Humberside destination list.

  • Tenerife South - Thomson Airways B737-800 - Monday - First Choice, Thomson - 7th November to 24th April

Summer 2017
