Meet your Recruiter

My name is TSgt Cody Johnson, Air Force Recruiter for the Bridgeport, WV area. I was raised in Estelline, South Dakota, a town of around 600 people. Estelline is a rural farming community with little to offer in the way of jobs or colleges. While a senior in High School I got a job building houses and began making decent money. I enjoyed my work and did it for five years. It wasn’t until I really started thinking about my future that I realized I wasn’t set up for anything beyond a single pay period. I was getting married and thinking of starting a family but had no insurance, no college education, and no savings. I was living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to make ends meet. So I called my Air Force Recruiter and decided to make a change.

I enlisted as a Security Forces Apprentice and was stationed in Oklahoma. It was a great learning experience and I got to take part in all aspects of Law Enforcement and Security. What I didn’t realize was, while I was getting a steady paycheck, living in a house on base, learning my job, and starting my family, I was also gaining college credits, for FREE. I now have an Associates of Applied Science degree from the Community College of The Air Force (CCAF) in Criminal Justice. The CCAF is an accredited community college that everyone is automatically enrolled in when they graduate Basic Military Training.

After Oklahoma, I got to be stationed in Germany. For three years I got to travel around Europe and see all the places I have only seen on TV. I found out about the Air Force’s Information, Tickets, and Travel (ITT) program, ITT gives you discounts on cruises, resorts, theme parks, sporting events, and concerts all around the world. I saw the Alps from a military only ski resort, I took my children to Disney Land in Paris and I took a cruise around the boot of Italy in the Mediterranean Sea, all for a fraction of what it would normally cost.

I am now in my 13th year in the Air Force and I have made it my goal to educate young men and women about the same opportunity to make a change in their lives. So, whatever your dreams may be for the future, reach out to me and I will let you know how the Air Force can make those dreams a reality.
