Welcome! I am so happy you decided to visit my page!
My name is Madolyn Turnage and I am a future educator for Pitt County Schools! I have my Associate in Arts from Pitt Community College and in December 2025, I will receive my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in AIG. I have a passion for teaching young minds and have decided to focus on AIG students. As an AIG individual myself, I desire to further my knowledge and that of others in the diverse world of AIG. This website will contain information, resources, and more that I hope you find useful and informative. As a teacher, I strive to serve students beyond the curriculum. I believe that all students should be cared for beyond the content that is taught. As an educator, I recognize that every student is unique, and will do my best to adapt instruction to fit the needs of diverse learners. I strive to impact young minds in a way that truly no other profession can. I want to serve students and ensure they are successful not only academically, but also in knowing who they are as an individual.
What is AIG?
AIG stands for Academically or Intellectually Gifted. These students perform beyond the levels for their age, experience, or environment. AIG students do not come from the same background, culture, race, and more. They are an extremely diverse group of students. AIG students come from a variety of ages, cultures, races, ethnicities, languages, classes, environments, sexual orientations and identities, and more. Giftedness is demonstrated through numerous ways including but not limited to academics, creativity, physical ability, intelligence, and more.Â
This video discusses common myths and misconceptions about gifted students and gifted education. Oftentimes, people overlook the many factors that contribute to a student's giftedness and development. It is important to look at the whole picture including aspects such as culture, economics, exceptionalities, environment/place, and more.
Although it is difficult to admit, we all held or hold biases based on experiences we have had. This video highlights how these hidden biases can have lifelong implications for children. It is an especially influential video for child-serving professionals such as educators.
