It's important that gifted learners know and understand that they are not alone. Through my GIFT 4100 course at ECU with Dr. Novak, we watched numerous Ted Talks given by gifted individuals or individuals who were knowledgeable in giftedness. The video on the left titled "Tall Poppies: Growing up Gifted" by Emily Murman focuses on Murman's experience as a gifted person, challenges she overcame, stereotypes she faced, and her educational career. The video on the right titled "What I Learned as an Ex-Gifted Kid" by Carol Cannistra focuses on Cannistra's experience of starting college at the age of 13. She discusses her successes and failures and what she is now learning as an "ex-gifted" adult. These videos and the speakers are amazing and show an insight into giftedness that not many people would see firsthand. I believe that gifted students can benefit from listening to other gifted individuals speak about their experiences.
