Dialogue (Test & Reflect)
Goal: Students engage AI as a thought partner to test reasoning, revise ideas, and reflect on their learning.
Student Focus: "Am I on the right track? What feedback helps me grow?"
Purpose: Help the students reflect, refine, and practice expressing their thinking.
Prompts for Students to use with AI:
"Here's my argument for [position]: [state your argument]. What are 1-2 potential counterarguments or weaknesses in my reasoning that I should consider?"
"I'm trying to explain [complex idea]. Can you ask me a few probing questions to help me articulate my thoughts more clearly?"
"I've written a paragraph about [topic]. Can you tell me if the logic flows clearly and if my main point is easy to identify? Point out any areas that are confusing."
"I'm stuck on [problem]. Can you help me brainstorm some different approaches or strategies I could try, without giving me the answer directly?"
"After reading [text], I'm thinking [my interpretation]. Can you play devil's advocate and challenge my interpretation with a different valid viewpoint?"
This is what I think—can you help me test or challenge it?
Can you ask me questions that help me think more deeply about my idea?
What might someone say if they disagreed with my thinking?
Can you help me explain this more clearly to someone else?
Here’s my answer—what are its strengths and weaknesses?
If I’m on the wrong track, what’s a clue I might have missed?
Can you show me how someone with a different perspective might respond?
Does my reasoning make sense, or is something missing?
Can you play devil’s advocate and push back on my explanation?
Based on what I said, what follow-up questions should I ask myself?
