This theme explores how human actions pollute our waterways, from plastic waste to chemicals and how this pollution eventually reaches the ocean. Students will investigate the impact on marine life, ecosystems, and coastal communities, while also learning about conservation efforts to protect our waters.
Fun Fact: Amsterdam’s canals were once heavily polluted, but after decades of cleanup, they’re now clean enough for wild seals to swim into the city center!
Students will take part in a purposeful day that begins at South Campus before heading to Zandvoort beach. The day includes a sandcastle competition themed around water pollution and a collaborative beach clean-up effort. The experience aims to combine fun with action, showing what it means to be caring, engaged citizens.
🧳 What to Bring:

Beach Clean up has an introduction about the importance of cleaning up litter and how this can affect the landfill/beaches and sealife. After this introduction, we'll hand out the equipment and the students walk in small groups over the beach. At the end of the activity we always include a competitive game. Who has the most trash, who has the heaviest trash, what kind of trash did we find, what did we found the most?
