In light of the three amendments that ASB proposed to the student body for the Spring 2021 ASB Elections and their implications (see Positions for more information), SCR representatives attended the ASB Town Hall to collect more information and to relay our concerns and questions to ASB. Overall, it was a cordial affair, and our questions were answered. However, there were still some lingering concerns among some members about the nature of the Spirit Commissioner and the extent to which it may embolden ASB to seize control of the student civil society. The notes we took on the town hall are provided down below.
On September 2nd, 2020, representatives of SCR met with the executive council and Mr. Ryan Press to propose changes to the club guidelines.
Below we have attached a copy of our presentation as well as our notes of the meeting made for the information of the general public. We first introduced common ground and goals between many clubs on campus as well as ASB. Then, SCR used a theoretical format of having three different categories of clubs in order to highlight specific issues of contention and provide possible solutions. Issues such as: advertising privileges, mandatory advertising, funds accounts, adviser sustainability, and ASB-Club communications were all addressed. We thank ASB for giving us the opportunity to present our suggestions, and we hope to continue to update this page with more information about our dialogue with ASB. Questions or further inquiries may be sent to the email at the bottom of the page.
