One of my first layouts done through Affinity. I wanted it to feel elegant but not overwrought, be black and white for ease of printing, and include the illustrations from 1894.
Public Domain artwork for this project was taken either from the 1894 edition, or from Pixabay (before I discovered the treasure trove that is the Internet Archive). Verified AI-free.
Because the 1894 Title Page was so ornate, I kept this one minimalistic for balance
The original 1894 dedication. I liked that it was handlettered by the illustrator.

The only full-page illustration in the book
Located in the Front Matter
Original 1894 Header/Title illustration
Header illustration made by splicing together separate pieces of public domain artwork
The circle continues the soft curves of the body-page brackets
The peacock carries through the visual motif of the 1894 title page, as well as the 1894 cover (not included here), and textual themes of ostentation, wealth, and arrogance
Curving brackets of flowers and peacock feathers to carry the motif
Header (left) and footer (right) extend the brackets into a frame
Page numbers offset by brackets
Changes I would make: pull the text a little further from the margins
