Activation (5 min)
Find instances of past simple in the text:
The teacher hands out the photocopie, which is a slightly abridged version of a text from the British council (words have been highlighted and an image added) In order to elicit previous knowledge on meanings of action verbs and the formation of past simple she will ask the students to read the highlighted verbs as she copies them on the board
Eg:
T: So, the first highlighted word we have is…
S: Went!
T: Great! (Writing it on the board) And what does went mean?
S: When you go somewhere!
etc…
Comprehension (10min)
She will then read through the text, accompanying with gestures and follow the text with the true or false exercise
Clarification (10 min)
Focusing the atention back on the board, the teacher then points at the verbs written on the board and asks what they have in common, eliciting the rule for making the prast simple for regular verbs (verb+ed) and checks the true or false exercise with the students.
Part 1:
Teacher shows her Smilebox collage and sticks it on the board under the title “My holidays!” She will ask the students questions to engage them in the activity and modeling information they can talk about in following activities
T: So this is a collage about my holidays. Where do you think this is?
S: Mountains! / Las Salinas / Ni idea profe
T: Yes, this is Jujuy! “We went to Jujuy” (she copies on the board.) And am I alone? Or with other people?
S: With people!
T: Yes they are my friends! And what are we doing here?
S: Eating food!
Next she will hand out a photocopie with some fill in the blanks sentences about her holidays to practice the past simple form.
Once the students have finished they can check all together on the board.
Part 2: Create a collage with pictures of your holidays on smilebox and share it with your classmates on google classroom/print them on a sheet of paper in color for next class. (You can use your own pictures or download them from the internet)
Part 3: Make a 60w text talking about your holidays to accompany the pictures. Talk about: Where you went. Who did you spend it with? What activities did you do? What was your favorite part? What was the worst? Etc...
Part 4: Share it on google classroom
