What is it?
Smilebox is a useful app for creating visual aids free of charge. It is a simple way of incorporating technology in the classroom. From their cellphones, students have the opportunity to create collages, slideshows, invitations, panflets, and so on. It also provides countless presets and examples to take as inspiration. Furthermore, this app is also useful to promote differentiated instruction and even help special needs students, thanks to the variety of options student has when creating their content.
By adding a fun twist to traditional activities, Similebox also makes them much more meaningful. Not only will students have to follow writting excersices but they can create the actual elements that writting serves. Eg: plan a surprise birthday party for a friend and create the invitations (including information and a description of the party) - Create a new year's message in English to send to your friends and family - Write a review about a hotel < Create a slide show with both images and text, promoting a hotel. Make it convincing. - Create a slideshow of your top 3 favourite songs and write why (include the music if possible) - In pairs create a menu and roleplay ordering different dishes. - Create a poster for a movie (include title, information, star actors, and a summary writen by you)
