Bible reading: John 4:5-34
“Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.””
John 4:13-14 NKJV
Friend, have you ever been thirsty? I’m sure ,you have. It is not a very nice feeling,is it ? You can quench your thirst for a little while and then it comes
back again. Especially,on hot summer day - it comes back very quickly.
See,the same is true with this world; we all thirst for something, but this world will never satisfy this inner thirst that Jesus was talking about.
The woman in this story ,lived a life of sin; always looking for something,
always looking for that one man, who would complete her,who would fulfill
her. You cannot find satisfaction in sin. Yes,it does give pleasure for a short time (Hebrews 11:25), and then it leaves you empty and dry.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 NKJV
Sin brings death: emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically. It kills,
that’s why we should hate sin. God hates sin, not because He doesn’t want us to have fun, He loves us so much ,that He hates anything that hurts us ,
He hates things that kill us .
Jesus confronted the woman and told her about her sin. What did she do?
She got religious, showing off her knowledge of the things of God. We are
often like that, when confronted about our true spiritual state ,we show off our knowledge of the Bible, about the things of God. We know all about God,we know all about the Word of God,but we often don’t know God enough. That’s why we’re empty, that’s why we’re not satisfied. There are so many Christians,so many people that are like that woman: jumping from one relationship to another; from one job to another; from one marriage to another; from one church to another. Always blaming someone, always
looking for a person to satisfy .Friends, only Jesus can truly satisfy, and that’s the living water that He was talking to her about. What is that living water? It’s the Holy Spirit. We are spiritual beings. How could you satisfy
A spiritual need ,a spiritual thirst with physical things, with material things?
You can try,but it will not work. New career, new car,new house....
Do you think those things will make you happy? Only Jesus satisfies,He’s
The fountain of the living water. The Bible says:
“.He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”
John 7:37-39 NKJV
The Holy Spirit is the living water inside of us. It takes an effort to draw
Water from a well and it takes an effort to draw this living water from deep
inside of you ,that’s where the Holy Spirit dwells, that’s where He speaks to us.
We are commended to be filled with the Holy Spirit,so friends I encourage
you to run to the presence of God.
“In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalms 16:11 NKJV
As you spend time with Him,more then a minute, more then just once a week,on Sunday. He will fill you with His Holy Spirit and satisfy your every spiritual need, with Himself.
Don’t just stop there, let that living water flow out of you to others.
There are people waiting for you. Be a vessel in our Father’s hands.
He wants to use You . If you feel like there must be more to being a Christian
,you are right,He has so much more for you .
Let Him fill you today. Don’t be like that woman, always looking for something. Drink from the Living Water and be fully satisfied.
