+Support

Here are some ways you can support Art Education + Social Justice:

    • Buy books! Purchase a book from your local, independent book store (yes, they do still exist). Here are some of our favorite book stores: Espacio 1839, Skylight Books + Tia Chuchas Centro Cultural + Bookstore. Find a local independent book store near you!
    • Enjoy a reading! Access our Reading List or past readings. Also, visit your local library or library online databases.
    • Write an article! Publish your writing online, in print form, or find a creative way to distribute it.
    • Research + share resources + repeat! Please contribute art education + social justice readings here. Also, feel free to post an AE+SJ online resource on the AE+SJ Book Club Facebook Group.
    • Become a Book Sponsor! If you are interested in becoming a AE+SJ Book Club supporter, please email aesjbookclub@gmail.com + ask how you can sponsor our next reading by purchasing a book or journal article database subscription for the book club.
    • Support our supporters! Please consider donating, volunteering + patronizing our partnering sites, including Los Angeles-based non-profit organizations + cultural community centers: Avenue 50 Studio, Mercado la Paloma, Self Help Graphics & Art + With Love Market & Cafe.
    • Be a Solidarity Builder! Commit to solidarity-building as an ongoing learning practice that includes active listening, sharing your story, engaging in dialogue with others, growth mindset thinking + teaching, serving in + with community, honoring diversity + inclusion, self-care, sharing leadership + leading by example, mentorship, + taking action!
    • Give thanks + appreciation! Find a creative way to show your appreciation to social justice-oriented teaching artists, educators, poets, authors, arts professionals, practicing artists, public/social art practitioners, organizers, + cultural workers. Here are some suggestions: Celebrate Teaching Artist Appreciate Week on the third week of May, donate to DonorsChoose.org, volunteer at a local school or community center, + gift arts supplies to a local teaching artist or educator!
    • What more can we do? Have a novel idea, let us know so we may add it to this growing idea list or let us know how we can support you with your AE+SJ project. Please email aesjbookclub@gmail.com.

Thank you!

In Solidarity,
