Ku Sang

Ku Sang grew up in Wonsan, in the province of South Hamgyeong, now located in North Korea.

His parents were Catholics and his older brother is a priest, but after study in Japan, he had a crisis of faith and back to Catholicism only later in his life. He back to where he grew up and worked as a journalist and writer.

he wrote essays on literature, social problems and religion. Later he edited anthologies of literature. A good number of his poetic works trace his life in the history of Korea.

Academics have highlighted the candid and direct expression and the lack of linguistic artifice of his poetry.

His poetry is a strong commentary about the injustice, inequality and absurdity of modern society. His work is based on his Christian faith, which offers the poet a permanent source of repentance.
