The overall accomplishments that was done this week include getting the entire system getting working end-to-end, by integrating our new powerful motor, electromagnet, as well as the compound spring.
Accomplishments:
- Mechanical
- Reinforced the Wood base by using extra aluminium ribs
- Attached new electromagnet around to the robot base, making sure it has enough power
- Electrical
- Cleaned up the wiring system, combined more wires using ribbon cables
- Wired the new electromagnet and the wiper motor to the motor driver and the power supply.
- Software
- Added more comments to the overall code on the Raspberry Pi
- Fixed the Arduino code to run the electromagnet and motor
- Integration
- Integrated the electromagnet, new motor with the robot base, and mounted everything on the pioneer.
Challenges:
- Mechanical
- New compound spring made of new material, as well as getting weight reduction on the metal piece of the electromagnet
- Electrical
- Cleaning up wiring, as well as making sure new electromagnet is getting enough current to hold down the swinging piece
- Making the electromagnet and motor work together required the old motor driver and a capacitor in parallel
- Software
- Getting the software to work with the new setup
- Integration
- Getting everything to work
