In-Person Attendance

Attendance

The research school is offered in a high-flex mode combining remote and in-person sessions. Digital sessions are generally open to all research school participants and to general public. During some on site slots, two sessions will be running in parallel. Please take a look through the programme beforehand. The capacity of on site parallel sessions is limited to 20 participants per session. In the registration form, we will ask you to specify the sessions you would like to attend. Be quick to book the sessions that interest you most!

Presentation

We encourage prospective summer school participants to present their own (prospective) research in form of a flash talk to be discussed during the round table or as a poster during the community breakfast on the second research school day. The range of topics covered by the research school encompasses, but is not limited to:

  • Acquisition of Reading and Writing Skills;

  • Methods in Researching Literacy Skills;

  • Literacy and Second Language Acquisition;

  • L1 Literacy and Literacy Skills in different Groups of Multilingual Speakers;

  • Role of Precursors in the Acquisition of Reading and Writing Skills;

  • Research-Informed Diagnostics and Progress-Tracking in Literacy Teaching;

  • Assessment Literacy of Practitioners;

  • Research in Instructed Literacy Acquisition;

  • Assessment in Multilingual and Multiliterate Classrooms.

Working Language

The sessions will be held either in English or in German. The working language will be specified separately for each session. Contributions from prospective participants in form of flash talks are welcome both in English and in German.

Participation Fee

Research school participants are required to pay the attendance fee of 25 €. You can pay the fee in advance by bank transfer. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any credit card payments. You will receive detailed instructions on how to pay the attendance fee upon comleting your registration. In case you cannot arrange a bank transfer, kindly let us know in the registration form. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

Grill Tour on the Oker River

We invite the participants to join us on a BBQ tour on the Oker river on the first research school day (September, 29th). The tour is operated by the local raft station and is available at 38,50 € per person. Please, indicate whether you would like to experience Braunschweig on water in the registration form. Registration

To get registered for the summer school, please fill in the registration form. Registration will open on June, 7th and close on September, 15th. In case you need a visa to Germany, be sure to register in advance, since visa application process may take quite a time.

Your participation will be confirmed as soon as possible upon receipt of your registration data and you will be asked to pay the registration fee. Since we can only admit a limited number of participants, those who are not accepted in the first round will be put on the waiting list. In case some of the confirmed applicants might cancel their participation, the candidates from the waiting list will be offered a vacant slot.

Travel awards of 50 € are available to participate in the research school on site. The nominees will be selected on a competitive basis taking into account the motivation letter that they provided during the registration.

Registration for the Teacher Workshop

The teacher workshop will be held in German and is free for the pre- and in-service teachers. The number of participants is limited to 15. Follow the link to get registered. No travel awards can be provided to participate in the teacher workshop.

Travelling to Braunschweig and Accommodation

The best way to get to Braunschweig from outside Europe is by plane. The nearest international airport is located in Hannover. A regional train (WFB) as well as an Intercity Express (IC) commutes between Hannover and Braunschweig at regular intervals. The trip takes around 40 minutes and costs 14 to 18 €, depending on the departure time and the train type. You can purchase the ticket in advance from the official German railways website (https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml) or from the ticket machine at the railway station.


A number of places to stay are available in Braunschweig at affordable prices. You can check out the apartment hotel "Casa del Sol" (Bültenweg 62, 38106 Braunschweig) which offers two- or three-bed rooms at ca. 20 € per person per night. Further rooms are available at "Schlafparadies" Hotel (Hildesheimerstr. 60, 38114 Braunschweig). The hotel offers the following room types:

  • single bedroom at ca. € 30 per night;

  • double bedroom with twin beds at ca. € 24 per night;

  • three-, four- and five-bed rooms at ca. € 16 per night.
