The main goal is to save the protagonist's grandson undertaking a journey to the mountain's peak and facing various threats including the Adopteds and finally, The Mother.
The progression through the game is semi-linear, guiding the player in character progression based on a linear learning curve. The game world is metroidvania-styled.
The play flow is a combination of stealth phases, combat phases, and environmental puzzle-solving phases. It aims to give the player a sense of alienation from the place they live in, combined with the frenzy of their mission's goal.
The main quest is accompanied by subquests that progress along with the main narrative but never interrupting it. Main quest missions are not true quests but hints (given as tasks) that serve to direct the player on the right path, without providing excessive help.
