This project teaches participants team building skills, self-esteem development, conflict resolution, urban gardening, neighborhood beautification, mural arts, group development, job readiness, and teamwork.
Golden Harvest International Holdings LLC trains youth from ages 5 to 18 to become leaders and Nation Builders through a system of discipline and deference workshops, high adventure activities, and leadership opportunities. The participants will demonstrate positive behaviors, respect for the neighborhoods and residents, and embracing larger roles and responsibilities in their community. They will show signs of good behavior and changes will be attained by the project’s second month. The goals for this project are increased knowledge, self-esteem, safety zones, job skills development, and violence prevention activities. The participants’ team building skills will make them the progressive future leaders of, and care givers in, their neighborhoods and communities. These community beautification projects have been implemented for over five years. The mentoring of youth from all ages in the neighborhood includes tutoring, urban gardening, respecting Elders, taking responsibility, and working together. These efforts have helped homeless and abused youth to get relief, kept idle youth from getting involved in crime, and has given all participants positive outlooks on their futures and potential. The participants role model adult mentors who encourage them to demonstrate prosocial behaviors, resolve conflicts and disagreements, and bring issues to progressive resolutions. This prepares youth to confront life issues with skills other than violent and/or criminal behaviors, and emotional outbursts. This project empowers parental and family involvement, collaborations with mentors, and develops bonding with the youth. Advisement, resources, and supports from responsible community residents are welcomed and included into the project.
Activities include: (1) Critical thinking skills challenges; (2) High adventure challenges; (3) Urban gardening; (4) Career shadowing and summer jobs; (5) Mural arts projects, career exploration trips for farms; (6) Group team building sessions and competitions; and (7) Urban aquaponics and horticulture projects.
