Addison Oaks has these two weekends every year called BOO BASH. During boo bash there are many activities and crafts to do each weekend as well as trick or treating around the campground and a campsite decorating contest at night. These weekends are very popular and start selling out well before October, so you have to reserve early. My main point of making my poster was to encourage more people to come to boo bash and camp during those weekends.
As the author of the poster, I have many biases because first of all I love the park, and I work there so I'm obviously going to say good things about it. I have also been to boo bash many times before working there and had so much fun. My position as a park worker shapes my work by causing me to talk extremely good about the park and giving you the basic information you need such as when I said “During BOO BASH we have countless Activities located at the rec pavilion as well as trick or treating around the campground from 5-6 on Saturday! Bring your kids for Halloween fun!”. This tells you what happens during boo bash without giving you so much information on one page that you don't want to just walk away and not even read it.
Making my poster I was thinking about who my audience was and catered the design to that. My main audience is the parents to get them to bring their kids to boo bash, but also to the kids because if they see it, they can ask their parents to bring them. I did this by using Halloween colors to set the spooky mood and then gave a short burst of information for people to read and find out what boo bash is all about.
The purpose of my poster was as I said before, getting people to come to BOO BASH!
I wanted as many people as possible to see it and for all of them to come and celebrate Halloween. I wanted them to come and have a safe area for their kids to do something fun for the holiday.
I designed my poster in a way that I think is eye-catching and easy to read. I made it with Halloween colors to set the spooky mood and made the words short and easy to read to ensure that there is no confusion. I feel that this way more people will be able to know about boo bash and come to celebrate.
In my poster I used a friendly tone to welcome everyone and make sure that they all felt like they were invited to come. I used the phrase “Bring your kids for Halloween fun!” to encourage families to bring their children and have a good time. I wanted everyone to feel excited and happy, so I catered towards that.
Out of all of the rhetorical devices I used pathos by saying “bring your kids for Halloween fun!”. This is pathos because boo bash is geared towards families, and they love their children and want them to have fun so I'm using that emotion to get more people to come to boo bash.
I definitely feel like I have learned a lot more about rhetorical devices like ethos pathos and logos and have a deeper understanding of how they work and how to implement them in my future work.
