Caminata is AV PTO's largest fundraising event. Here are some FAQ's about the event:
What is Caminata de colores?
The translation of "caminar" is "to walk." To turn the verb into a celebration and add our color fun, we have Caminata de colores. Each grade level receives a t-shirt (provided by the PTO) with a specific color. All participants are encouraged to dress colorfully. The walk begins at Ada Vista, winds through downtown Ada and the fire station, and returns back to school. Upon return, there's a ritual of chalking the 4th graders. The walk is organized by grade level.
How does Caminata de colores work as a fundraiser?
Prior to the walk, there will be information for parents, caregivers, friends, family, and sponsors to donate to AV PTO. With a donation, you can create a sign for your child and/or children that will be placed along the Ada Vista property the week of the event. Sponsors will be on banners, and depending on their level, they may be featured on the back of the Caminata shirts. To receive the sign link, there is a minimum of $3 to donate, but we hope to raise for the entire year with this one event. If possible, we hope you can give $100 per child at Ada Vista. Of course, we know everyone's circumstances may vary, so please feel free to give what you can. We do want every child to have a sign, so if you're experiencing financial hardship, please contact the AV PTO to access the link.
Who can participate in Caminata?
Students, teachers, staff, parents, caregivers, siblings, etc. may participate in the walk. Parents, caregivers, and siblings may walk with the student. Yes, you may bring a stroller or wagon for younger siblings.
What does "chalking the 4th graders" mean?
Fourth graders receive a white t-shirt for their Caminata walk. Upon return, it is a rite of passage to add colors to the 4th graders t-shirts. Once the 4th graders return back to Ada Vista, their parents, family and friend await them with chalk powder. The PTO provides colorful chalk powder. Fourth graders run through an arch and receive the colors. It's an exciting ritual to kickoff their last year at Ada Vista!
