Objects-on-Hands Picture Database

The Objects-on-Hands Picture Database contains realistic high quality pictures of 126 everyday objects from six different categories (women’s accessories, fruits, kitchen utensils, office supplies, toys, and vegetables), captured using two different camera viewpoints (frontal-view and top-view viewpoints), in five different conditions (alone on a white background, in clean hands, in hands covered with mud, in hands covered with a pasta sauce, and in hands covered with chocolate and peanut butter spread).

Normative data on name agreement and familiarity for the objects held by clean hands were collected from North American and Portuguese people. Norms for the objects from the sauce condition were also collect from an additional Portuguese sample. Arousal, disgust and emotional valence ratings were obtained for all pictures. The same data were also collected when the exact same pictures were framed in a disgusting situation (diarrhea) and in a non-disgusting condition (chocolate).
