Inclusive Baseball at the YMCA
Inclusive Baseball at the YMCA
The Miracle League Field was built specifically to allow individuals with disabilities to play baseball and softball. The field is located within the Cibolo Sports Complex near the Cibolo YMCA. It features cushioned, rubberized grass, wheelchair-accessible dugouts, and a level, barrier-free surface.
Equipment
Cleats are not allowed; however, closed-toe shoes are required to participate.
To facilitate participation, all adaptive equipment is allowed.
The YMCA provides the game tees, balls, bats, and helmets.
Game Format
Each game has a 50-minute time limit.
Each batter will have 5 swings to put the ball into play. If the ball is not in play after the 5th swing, the player will advance to 1st base.
To encourage gameplay, outs will not be called, and score will not be recorded. Defensive plays are encouraged to develop participants skills.
The last batter will clear the bases. Once all offensive players have gone up to bat, the game will move forward to the next inning.
Volunteers and parents can provide assistance at the players' request.
Lead offs and stealing are not allowed.
Any player batting or base running must wear a helmet.
Any child between the ages of 5-8 is allowed to play.
Player Safety
To protect the safety of all players in the program, any participant wearing a cast will prohibit them from participating in the YMCA games or practices. Exceptions can be made with approval from the sports director and documented approval from a physician.
All types of jewelry (earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.) must be removed before the game.
The YMCA does not keep official game scores or records.
Unsportsmanlike conduct of the players, volunteers, or coaches is not tolerated. The individual will be asked to leave the facility if the behavior persists.
If the game's atmosphere feels unsafe or the YMCA's Values are not being adhered to, the referee or YMCA staff member can end the game.
If a team has less than the number of required players, the opposing team will be asked to share players to provide competition. We make every effort to play each scheduled game.
Volunteers, coaches, and staff are expected to adhere to YMCA Values and are responsible for team actions. This includes parents and players as well.
The YMCA Players and Parents Pledge is required prior to the start of each game. A YMCA staff will lead the pledge, however in the event a staff member is unavailable, the coach, a parent, or layer can administer the pledge.
Players Pledge

Parents Pledge
I pledge before God, to always support my team, with good sportsmanship and sound judgement, and to develop my child's self-respect and support their participation in the program.
All players, coaches, and volunteers are responsible for cleaning up their bench after all practices and games.
