Community Organizing focuses on bringing people together in chapters or groups, generally through door knocking and other means of directly talking with people. The organizer engages with the community one-on-one to identify their issues, solutions, and a vision for change based on collective action. To start a local chapter community, or create a community campaign, organizers undertake a 2-month community organizing drive.
Community Organizing includes many different activities such as outreach, fundraising, campaign planning, leadership development, mobilizing, and much more.
ACORN Canada’s focus for community organizing is on a financially sustainable structure where members from low and moderate income communities are elected to our boards and organizing staff report to elected boards of members. Click here to learn more about ACORN Canada’s Principles and Foundation.

ACORN believes working towards financial sustainability is the most effective way to ensure that our members control the direction of the organization. Like a union or a church, individual low and moderate people chip in dues to support the organization. We have 3 levels of membership. Full members pay $15-$30/month; associate members pay $5 - $44 / one time and provisional members support the vision of the organization. We also accept individual donors to support the work of our members.
