Their entry event was a health fair with professionals from the community including the school nutrition office, the county health department, a nurse midwife, a dietitian, a physical therapist, mental health services, the national park, and the doctors office that operates within the school. They also talked to community outreach from the police department and the student support services at the local colleges.
Based on their experience in the health fair, students named issues they were interested in researching and were grouped by interest, in mixed-grade-level groups.
The students met every Friday to research, meet with mentors, and determine one thing the school should do to increase student wellness.
The students then presented their pitches to administrators, teachers, parents, and mentors at the end of their experience.
