The Impact of the Incredible Edibles
Growing their own sustainable fruits and vegetables can help children learn about ways to help tackle the climate crisis.
The ‘Incredible Edibles’ is a healthy eating enterprise from Bord Bia Irish Food Board for primary school students. It encourages children around the country to grow their own fruit and vegetables. Schools are provided with grow packs which contain all the essential equipment to get started and children are encouraged to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
Two of the main aims of the ‘Incredible Edibles’ is to increase the awareness of where the food comes from and to learn about eco-sustainability.
Other aims include educating students about growing their own fruit and vegetables, having a balanced diet regarding fresh Irish produce, and having five to seven portions of fruit and vegetables daily.
By doing so the initiative helps children to make informed choices in the future about eco sustainability and their role in helping the environment.
It does not have to be just schools! Parents and guardians should encourage their children to become aware of the importance of growing their own fruit and vegetables, and the impact it has on the world we live in today.
