The third core unit focuses on Development. Development is the sustained increase in a society's standard of living, but while the definition seems straightforward, the practice is not. Who should be in charge of development? Is development predominantly an economic issue, or is there more to it? Are current international development frameworks fit for the job? How much inequality is too much inequality? Is democracy the best political system for development? Throughout this unit, we will explore these big debates by revisiting some of our old case studies in Zambia, China and Qatar, while also exploring new issues in Haiti and Peru.
In the drop-down navigation up top, you can find the pages for each sub-unit with important information and handouts.
