Universities must comply with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act which requires that all current and newly created digital content meets certain accessibility standards by April 2026. As such, UMass Dartmouth community members including faculty, staff, and learners can benefit from understanding how to create and deliver accessible presentations.
While UMass Dartmouth does provide a Charlton College of Business (CCB) branded accessible PowerPoint (PPT) template, it is very challenging to locate and is not designed with student use in mind. In addition, none of the classes in which our team has completed to date have provided guidelines in their syllabi or as part of the course curriculum for creating inclusive presentations.
It is important for students to learn to communicate accessibly as part of their curriculum at UMass Dartmouth. This will make the learning environment more inclusive and will better prepare students to succeed in their chosen career paths.
Our team aims to take a small step towards the goal of fostering accessible communications by providing students in the CCB with tools and resources to learn how to create and deliver accessible presentations.
