The Dance Collective Program at ABJ is a program that involves students from grade 9 through 12.
This course is intended to provide students with the foundations of dance. It is designed to foster in students an understanding and appreciation of, curiosity about, and a lifelong interest in dance. It is also designed to expose learners to a broad range of artistic and aesthetic experiences from a variety of dance genres and traditions including ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop and more. Through the program students will broaden their dance experience by guest choreographers, student and group choreography, history of dance, future job opportunities in dance, attending live dance shows and experiencing a final semester showcase. Students will be introduced to these concepts in grade 9 and will continue to work toward excellence as they progress through the 15, 25 and 35 levels.
Some awesome experiences of our Dance Collective was:
African Guest Choreographer, Masani St. Rose-Toth
Contemporary Guest Choreographer, Rowan Koop
Dance Showcases, Perspectives in Motion (2 sold out performances)
Field trip to see Shaping Sound at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and was able to meet the cast of the show including Travis Wall, Taylor Sieve, and Lex Ishimoto.
