I am something special

Before christmas holidays children from kindergarten and pupils from 1st to 3rd grade listened to the lovely story about Elmer, the colourful elephant.

Story of Elmer: Elmer the elephant is a colorful character. His heady optimism and unbridled sense of humor keep the entire community in a cheery mood. And Elmer's unusual multicolored checkerboard hide is the wonder of all the other elephants, who are characteristically gray. In spite of his sunny disposition, Elmer begins to feel conspicuous. He starts to believe the others are laughing at him because of his crazy patchwork coat. When Elmer discovers a bush in the jungle with elephant-colored berries, he shakes the bush and rolls in a berry mash until he is as gray as the others. Now no one seems to notice him; for a time he enjoys his anonymity, but after a while he begins to realize just how quiet and dull things are when he's not around. Finally the practical joker in Elmer emerges, and he soon has the whole gang laughing again. McKee's gentle humor and love of irony are in full force in this celebration of individuality and laughter. Well-designed spreads are washed with stunning color and the use of textured, painted and airbrushed surfaces contributes to the powerful visual impression.

After the story we talked about our differences and how every child and human is unique. We sang a song about an elephant and completed a working sheet about our differences.

With this story we marked The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons.

How Pavliha sold their Kukec

Third grades read the Slovene folk fairy tale How Pavliha sold the Kukec. Afterwards pupils devided their roles. Pupils prepared for a presentation, after each exercise, each group pulled out a leaf with the continuation of the fairy tale. Pupils had to continue their story in roles and play it according to the instructions on the ticket.

Story about a boy named Pavliha and a terrible "animal" called Kukec.
Pavliha was an only child. His mother loved him very much, especially because he loved to obey. That is why she ordered him not to walk around the house when he is home alone. She was afraid thet he would found her saved money and waste it. She hid the money in a pot under the ash in the stove in told him that a terrible animal is sitting in the oven - a Kukec that scratches your eyes if you look at it. He promised her to obey and sat well behind the stove all the time.
When the mother left, a man, who sold the pots, came to their house. He began to offer his goods.
Pavliha did not buy the pots, but he offered the man to buy Kukec. When the man looked at what the Kukec he was happy. The man left Pavliha the pots and he took Kukec.
Pavliha was very pleased with the bargain in barely waiting to tell the mother about it. That is why he punched the pots and hanged them on the rope so that the mother could spot them as soon as possible. Since he could not wait any longer for the mother to come, he ran towards her. When he told her about this bargain, her mother was very grieved. When she saw the broken pots she cried for three days and nights. So Pavliha was left without a dowry.
