At Abbeyfield School, we are committed to ensuring that every student has the literacy skills they need to succeed across the curriculum. As part of this commitment, some students will use Lexia PowerUp Literacy, an online programme designed to boost confidence and strengthen skills in reading, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Lexia PowerUp Literacy is a personalised online learning programme that helps students develop key literacy skills through engaging, interactive activities.
Because Lexia adapts to each student's individual needs, it provides targeted support in the specific areas where they will benefit most. As students work through the programme, the activities automatically adjust to provide the right level of challenge and support.
Lexia is designed to be positive, encouraging, and motivating, helping students make steady progress while learning at their own pace.Â
You can access Lexia PowerUp by clicking on the button below:
Students are identified for Lexia PowerUp following literacy assessments, classroom feedback, or other evidence that indicates they would benefit from additional support with reading and literacy skills.
Being placed on Lexia is not a reflection of effort, behaviour, or ability. Many students use Lexia as part of their learning journey. The programme simply provides extra opportunities to practise and strengthen essential literacy skills, helping students gain confidence and achieve greater success in their studies.
For students enrolled on Lexia PowerUp, the programme forms part of their English homework provision.
Students are expected to complete 30 minutes of Lexia PowerUp each week, and this will be recorded on their ClassCharts account as their English homework.
As Lexia is replacing their literacy-focused homework, students using the programme will no longer be required to complete Bedrock Learning homework for English. This allows them to focus on the personalised support provided through Lexia.
The required 30 minutes can be completed:
At home using any internet-connected device
At our KS3 English/Literacy Support Homework Club, held every Wednesday from 3:15pm to 4:00pm in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC)
In addition, students will attend a:
20-minute support session with a TA during a tutorial period each week
These sessions provide guidance, encouragement, and support to help students make the most of the programme and celebrate their progress.
Students will be provided with:
Their Lexia PowerUp login details
A help guide explaining how to access and use the programme
We encourage parents and carers to take an interest in their child's progress and celebrate the achievements and milestones they reach along the way.
