📚✨ Get Ready to Read! ✨📚
This year at Abbeyfield School, we’re launching a variety of fun and exciting reading challenges and competitions for both students and staff! It’s all part of the UK Government’s National Year of Reading 2026 – a chance for everyone to dive into books, discover new stories, and celebrate the power of reading together.
And don’t forget our school’s reading motto:
🌟 “We Read to Succeed at Abbeyfield School.” 🌟
Whether you love adventure stories, gripping mysteries, or fascinating non-fiction, there’s a challenge for you. Let’s make 2026 a year to remember – one page at a time! 📖💡
Athelstan Recommended Reads
The Athelstan Recommends Reads competition encourages students across the Athelstan Trust to share their love of reading by submitting a short book review (40–60 words) via the QR code posters around the school or by accessing the online competition form using the button below. Selected recommendations will be displayed as shelf-edge signs in school libraries across the Athelstan Trust, and one entry each term will be randomly chosen to win a prize. For more information, speak to Mr. Russell in English or Mr. Evans in the LRC.
We’re excited to launch our KS3 Readathon, running from Thursday 5th March to Friday 26th June!
The Readathon is all about enjoying reading in your own time and earning House Points while you do it. Every minute you spend reading for pleasure counts — and the more you read, the more points you earn for your House.
You’ll earn 2 House Points for every 30 minutes of reading. The three students with the highest number of reading minutes at the end of the Readathon will each win a £10 Amazon voucher.
You can read anything you enjoy, including:
Books (paper or eBooks)
Comics or graphic novels
Newspapers or magazines
Audiobooks
Podcasts
All you need to do is log your reading time on the Read for Good website using the Track My Read portal. This guide will show you how to use the Track My Read portal.
