Job Description
The Undergraduate Instructor position is a key component of the AAYL Summer Program. The undergraduate instructor is responsible for the delivery of the program’s curriculum and helping the students better understand key topics and issues in Asian American Studies, the practices of community building, and self-care.
Job Duties:
Complete 20 Hours of Training (May 28, 2024 - June 21, 2024): The training will mainly be on Zoom and will cover the following topics:
AAPI Community
AAPI Identity
AAPI Mental Health
AAPI Advocacy
Oral History & Story Maps
Complete 20 Hours of In-person teaching (June 24 - 28, 2024 8 am - 12 pm PST)
The incumbent will be co-teaching a class of approximately 25-30 high school students with a graduate student instructor and a high school student assistant.
The incumbent will also have approximately 5 - 8 hours of work outside of the in-person teaching schedule the week of June 26th to answer emails and plan activities as needed.
Other duties include:
Providing mentorship to students as requested
Assisting with curriculum development and edits, as needed
Grading assignments as needed
Emailing students, parents, and other staff/guest speakers updates and information
Sending daily recaps to staff during the week of instruction as well as a full program recap the week after the program (July 1 - 5, 2024) (2 hours of remote work)
Working with the on-site SCCCA staff to obtain necessary materials (i.e. craft paper, loaner laptops) and complete requested tasks (i.e. taking attendance) during week of instruction
Compensation: $1,500 for all work completed from May 28 - July 5, 2024
