After learning so many useful web 2.0 and collaboration tools in this LEC course, our group was very successful in discovering a relevant and important topic to many of us as educators and parents: Teens, Technology and Communication. Although I would have liked to incorporate more arts and music into our project, considering I am a music teacher, I was satisfied with my use of iMovie for the prototype section.
Our group used several interesting web 2.0 tools, including Answer Garden, an Infographic, Google Draw, iMovie and Google Forms. Some of the strengths of our tools included, great support for thorough asynchronous communication, as well as synchronous communication during our Adobe Connect virtual conference. For example, Answer Garden allows students access to a thought web in real time. I love that all Google apps are automatically saved to avoid losing any work and I enjoyed the creativity and ease of information with infographics, which allows us to quickly and efficiently relay important and sometimes detailed information to students.
This module has definitely helped with iNACOL Standard A (the online teacher knows the primary concepts and structures of effective online instruction and is able to create learning experiences to enable student success), considering the comprehensive approach of Design Thinking and how it helps to prepare our students for the global community we are creating together. Standard B (the online teacher understands and is able to use a range of technologies, both existing and emerging, that effectively support student learning and engagement in the online environment) was also emphasized with this module because of the various Web 2.0 tools, as well as Standard C (The online teacher plans, designs, and incorporates strategies to encourage active learning, application, interaction, participation, and collaboration in the online environment) with the group work collaboration. I am currently creating lesson plans for my composition students to collaborate within their groups using popular music stems, and the online composition software Soundtrap to collaborate and compose while outside or inside of our music classroom.
