Below are a few policies that students should be aware of to have a pleasant experience in this online class.
As your instructor, I will respond to all emails within 48 hours when received between Monday - Friday. I encourage your participation in the course and when ever you have a question please do not hesitate to ask using the Canvas Inbox.
In an online class, students need to log in regularly. At the start of the class, students must login within the first 48 hours of class starting and complete the syllabus quiz in order to show that they plan on staying in the course. After the first 48 hours, it is required that students log in every week to enusre that you are participating in class. I do not want you to fall behind so it is best to set a schedule that works for you and log in multiple times a week to read course material and complete homework by the deadline. If you do not login for two weeks, it is the college policy that you are eligible to be dropped for non-participation.
The extra credit policy in this course is designed to assist students with recovering necessary points lost throughout the course. It is always best we can recognize that life happens and we are in need of a little boost sometimes. The extra credit is created to be a helpful assist in helping you to reach your educational goal of passing this course should you find that you have fallen a little behind. Please see the pages in Canvas for specific instructions on completing and turning in the extra credit by the deadline.
Life happens and we have to adapt to it and still find a way to be successful, am I right? Students are expected to login regularly each week, but if you miss a week please let me know through Canvas Inbox as soon as possible. You will have until Saturday to turn in your work but after that, I would need to hear from you if you need more time to turn in your work. Try to avoid late work because students can fall behind quickly in class since we do work every week. Remember, reach out to me through email and let's find a remedy for the situation. Remember, if you do not login for two weeks, it is the college policy that you are eligible to be dropped for non-participation.

As an educator for over 20 years, I have gained a first hand understanding of the diverse needs of the student populations in the community college setting, including the needs of students who are academically under prepared, under represented and at risk. I have worked with students from various academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds. Therefore, I strongly believe and value learning about various cultural viewpoints in order to maintain my appreciation of the student's perspective. I also firmly believe that it is critical to treat students as individuals and not make assumptions about them on the basis of their ancestry since each student varies in their backgrounds, beliefs, values and levels of acculturation. I ensure that I include diverse authors and imagery in my courses to equally represent a broad range of beliefs and life experiences.
Often referred to as "netiquette," here is a gentle reminder of the interaction practices and rules we'll follow in all our interactions in this course. If you ever feel that someone is not following these rules, please send an email to me using the Canvas Inbox and describe your concerns.
