AAMLA is proud to announce the launch of our exclusive "AAMLA Sheroes Tribute" t-shirt, which celebrates the outstanding contributions of remarkable women who have made a significant impact in health sciences librarianship. The shirt is a tribute to the exceptional achievements of five trailblazing Black women: Josephine, Arlee, Gwendolyn, Madeline, and Beverly, who have paved the way for future generations.
In 1940, Josephine G. Morton became the first Black librarian to attend a Medical Library Association Meeting.
Arlene May was the first Black librarian elected and served on the MLA Board of Directors from 1979 to 1982.
In 1979, Dr. Gwendolyn S. Cruzat became the first Black librarian to deliver the prestigious Janet Doe Lecture.
Madeline V. Taylor contributed to the transformation of MLA by converting regional groups into chapters and integrating them into the national governance of the Association.
In 2016, Beverly Murphy etched her name in history as the first Black president of MLA, marking a monumental moment in the Association's 120-year history.
This t-shirt pays tribute to Josephine, Arlene, Gwendolyn, Madeline, and Beverly. Wear it proudly and celebrate their legacy. Purchase yours today at the AAMLA Swag Shop.
