March 2026 CSG Election
In accordance with the CSG Bylaws, we will hold an online election for the position of Vice Chair to the CSG Board of Directors. The new Vice Chair's two-year term will begin on July 1, 2026 when the current Vice Chair (Laiyin Zhu) will assume the Chair position. Nominations are now closed. The election will take place online between March 17-31.
The Vice Chair shall also serve as Chair-elect, and as Acting Chair if the Chair is vacated. An elected Vice Chair, in their role as Chair-elect, shall automatically assume the position of Chair when the current Chair’s term has expired. The Vice Chair will also serve as Treasurer of the CSG, and as such, will coordinate the financial affairs of the CSG with the AAG, and will present an annual financial report at the AGM. The Vice Chair will also serve as Secretary of the CSG, and as such will take minutes of all Board meetings and AGMs. The Vice Chair shall be responsible for organizing the CSG Reception at each AAG annual meeting.

STATEMENT: I would be honored to serve as Vice Chair for the Climate Specialty Group. My work focuses on how cities can become more resilient to climate hazards. I have organized sessions sponsored by this specialty group (e.g., on heat resilience) and attended the conference business meetings. I have been an active AAG member for over a decade and previously served a term as the student representative and later as a faculty board member for the HDGC specialty Group. I’m now at a point in my career where I have more capacity to serve the discipline!

STATEMENT: I have been a member of AAG since 2002, when I was a graduate student at Arizona State University. I have always been a part of the CSG during this time. My specialty areas in Geography include climate, as well as geospatial technologies, having my GIS Professional certificate since 2015. I am interested in serving in this role as a way to learn more about the climate specialty group and to serve the professional geography community in general.

STATEMENT: I am Professor Abdullah Al Mamun, PhD, with an academic background in Geography, Climate Economics, and Urban Planning, as well as Economics and Folkloristics in the Department of Folklore and Social Development Studies, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. My scholarly and leadership pursuits encompass research on climate change, renewable energy transitions, ecosystem-based adaptation, the circular economy, and the development of climate-resilient communities, with a particular focus on the Global South. I have previously served in elected and advisory capacities within the American Association of Geographers. I am dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, mentorship, and impactful, community-engaged climate scholarship within the CSG.

STATEMENT: REASONS WHY I WANT TO SERVE
To provide leadership support to the chair in the execution of programs for the specialty group. To leverage my experience as a climate scientist in organizing and deepening climate conversations focused on the global South.
If elected, I would work with the executive in organizing regular webinars and symposiums on the state of the climate and prepare policy briefs for state and non-state actors
In addition, I will work with the executives to attract grants to support students, postdoc and early career scientists in the specialty group programs
