LinkedIn is testing yet another new feature. This time it wants to help you connect with people who are nearby – in meetings, conferences, and events.
After rolling out native videos to all Company Pages, launching its first ever video ad product, and more recently introducing GIF search in messaging, LinkedIn is testing yet another “very social” feature.
With “Find Nearby,” LinkedIn wants to help you connect with the people you meet during meetings, conferences, and events.
At first I thought it was a little on the creepy side. I’d expect something like this from Facebook or Tinder, but not really from the “professional network.” But taking a step back, I then understood the power of such feature for LinkedIn (and why it is the only platform where such a feature actually makes sense.)

We get it, you want to see jobs as soon as they’re posted. That’s why we’re rolling out a new mobile push notification to members who have told us they are actively looking for a new role as soon as new jobs are posted. Now, you can see new jobs within minutes of them being posted so you can be one of the first to apply.
You can sign up for these notifications by noting that you are actively looking for a job in your career interests dashboard, and making sure your mobile notifications are turned on.
Whether you are looking to get to the next level in your current field, or if you are planning on changing roles entirely, it’s helpful to understand the skills and qualifications behind a specific job title. Now, when you search for a job title on LinkedIn, you’ll see a new module that outlines:
To access these insights, go to the search bar via the LinkedIn desktop browser, and type in a specific job title, such as software engineer, accountant, or biologist. Click “enter” - these insights won’t show up if you click anything from the drop down menu. Once the search results populate, you’ll see a new module in the right rail of the page that shows highlights for that specific job title.

The best LinkedIn profile will not be very useful to you without contact information readily available for recruiters and other members of your network. If you cannot be easily reached, they move on. Opportunities evaporate, and you will never know.
When recruiters find someone who is qualified, they want to contact that person ASAP. More than one recruiter has told me that their preferred contact information is a phone number, but an email address is the absolute minimum. If recruiters (and probably potential clients/customers) cannot easily contact you, they move on to the next Profile.
