Children's Program

The children's martial arts program that first started at the 8 Wing MAC has since spread into approximately sixty area elementary and high schools. Students are instructed in the proper ethical behaviour necessary for martial arts such as a respect for elders, respect for law and community, respect for property, courtesy, self-reliance, self-confidence, and leadership. The ulimate goal of the program is "mastery over the self." After a student has achieved the rank of yellow belt, they may want to join the Leadership Program where students develop from a basic Junior Leader to full-fledged instructors. We also promote the Karate Kids Don't Do Drugs Campaign.

Of primary importance in our program is Street-Proofing and Self Confidence. Our complete child safety program features every aspect of child safety from escaping adult attacks either on the ground or in cars, in crowded places, in isolated places; to dealing with bullies anywhere singly or during a "swarming." Our Head Held High program teaches children to develop pride and confidence in themselves through repeated voice drills, eye contact, posture and positive attitude training. All of these drills are tempered with the discipline of traditional martial arts. The goal is not to create bullies but to develop young people who have the discipline to succeed in life.

Children's classes run every Tuesday and Thursday 5:30- 6:00 p.m. and 6:10-7:00p.m.
