Arrival in Chania

The city of Chania is the nearest port of entry to Kolymbari.

a) By air

Chania can be reached by air from Athens International Airport. The Chania International Airport is served by  Aegean Airlines. Some international air carriers that provide direct flights to Chania or Heraklion (the capital of Crete) without connecting through Athens may provide a more economical flight. The “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” international airport of Chania (CHQ) is strongly recommended as the final destination of your flights, because it is only 44 km (27 miles) away from the venue and it is well served during May. Please note that regular direct flights connect the airport of Chania with Athens, while there are also several direct flights from other European countries (UK, Germany, etc).

Participants may take a taxi from the airport of Chania that costs about 60-75 Euro (50 min drive) or use public bus transportation between Chania Airport and Kolymbari (Kolimbari bus stop), which is operated by the public transport company: https://www.e-ktel.com/en/.

Efforts will be made for some transportation from Chania airport to OAC on the 3rd of May (one in the morning and another early afternoon) depending on the arrival time and the number of participants.

b) By Sea

Chania has a daily sea connection with Piraeus (the port of Athens) via ferry. Piraeus can be reached from the airport using the Athens metro system, public bus, or taxi. Here is an unofficial guide to getting around in Athens, including instructions on getting to the Ferry Boats.

Ferries to Chania (Souda port) leave from Athens (Piraeus port) on a daily basis. The overnight/daytime trip with ANEK lines takes about 9 hours. Please check the web sites for ferry schedules.

The bay of Souda serves as the port of Chania. Participants may take a taxi from Souda port to the venue that costs about 40-55 Euro (40 min drive) or use public bus transportation between Souda port and Kolymbari (Kolimbari bus stop), which is operated by the public transport company: https://www.e-ktel.com/en/.
