Invited Speaker

Andreas Serafim is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Classical Studies at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland. He is a first-class graduate of the Department of Classical Studies and Philosophy of the University of Cyprus (BSc degree 2008). He holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin (M.A. 2010) and a doctoral degree from the University College London (Ph.D. 2013). He has worked as a researcher, a tutor and a professor at Universities in Cyprus and abroad: Academy of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Cyprus, Open University of Cyprus, Trinity College Dublin and University College London. Both the research he is currently undertaking and the pieces of his work that have been published through the years cover a wide range of scientific subjects and research approaches: ancient Greek rhetoric, performance, nonverbal communication, identity construction, invective, ancient Greek religion, reception of classical texts in the post-classical and the modern world, and various theoretical approaches (p.ex.: humour theories, gender/sexuality theories and linguistics). He counts 56 publications, which have resulted in 223 citations and the following Google Scholar metrics: h–index: 6/ i10–index: 5. He has worked as a reviewer for international publishing houses and journals of Classical Philology. Moreover, he has organised Conferences and lectures regarding the present and the future of Classics.
