Session 0 - Cold Open
Game Background
Game Background
The summers have been getting shorter, and the winters longer and colder. It is only September and already the snows have begun…
For the last year you have been working as swords for hire; guarding the occasional trade caravan etc, but you have no desire to face another winter without permanent shelter. A month ago you stopped in the only tavern on the Mountain Pass, “The Axe and Mallet”. You have reached an agreement with the owner, Lloyd. In exchange for 75GP a month(900/yr), and throwing the occasional drunkard out of the bar you will be provided food, lodging, and can conduct business in the basement.
The word in the tavern is that a Dwarven Merchant Party is coming down from the mountains and will pass through tomorrow. In response Lloyd starts getting supplies together mumbling under his breath. “...and with a storm coming too. We’ll be up to our balls in dwarves for a week before the road is clear enough for them to leave. Their money is good enough” You hear him stomping upstairs to make ready the bunkhouse. As an afterthought he yells back down. “I’ll need one of you watching the door tomorrow, gotta keep those hairy bastards in line”

The rest of the party arrive in time to see the aftermath: a shattered glass jar, a troll hand sizzling in acid, the side of King's head smoking and Bargle grinning like a madman. Enoch and Ubba both almost fall prey to Intellect Devouring Worms whiel the group deals with some more Drow.
After patching themselves up, Alaxender then wanders the cave and introduces the group to a worm infested squid monster that he found. You travel further into the cave system stumbling through a grick nest and into a massive subterranean ocean. Most of the party swims through the water and Ubba gets pulled under water to drown by a water weird while Alexander tries to clear the deck of a mysterious ship. King Allt-a-Bhainne majestically rides some ice to the ship to aid his companion. Enoch swims through the dicey water, scales the side of the ship and starts slicing up fish people saying he should be the captain because he still beat Ubba to the deck. Bargle saves Ubba by banishing the water weirds before magic-ing himself onto the ship himself. Ubba pops from the water like a cork hanging on to a hot air balloon and lands on the deck.

King A: "I'M A BEAR, GRRRRRR"
Fart Son: "ttttttthhhhhhppppppttttt"
The party was transported to a courtyard surrounded by 4 merchants and a door with no handle. Everyone cruised the mall and the party eventually walked away with some dapper new armor, a cloak, a tea set, a strange new pet, and a door knocker.
The 2nd 'room' was a circular puzzle with switch plates in the floor and flame skulls patrolling the room. The party determined that all the switches had to be toggled on to progress.
The 3rd room was a room split into the 4 seasons with a metal face on the door that aged according to which seasons brazier was lit. After exterminating the inhabitants of the room, including a yeti that took down both Ubba and King, the party eventually figured out that the door was locked while the timer was in place and waiting until all the braziers were out would allow them to pass to the next room

King A:
If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
The party encounters a large room with dozens of floating platforms and 3 evil looking guards. After the grueling battle in the previous room you decided to take the careful way through this one. King transformed into a Giant Eagle and was able clear the room without issue. Alexanders fancy footwork and teleportation stone left a clear path for Ubba. A last minute leap by Enoch left enough passage for Bargle to teleport to safety and you were able to leave the guards undisturbed.
The next room was an invisible path. with help from Fartson the group identified the path using loose sand and gravel and cleared the room with minimal damage from the statues beams of fire.
An eyeball and random teleportation gate later put the party up against the Alhoon that has been controlling the monsters in this section of the Underdark. After what amounted to a rousing game of whack-a-mole the party finally put the monster down and claimed his ship. You poured over the diagrams and maps in the captains chambers looking for a way to get aboard the flying ship hovering over Kalltvatten Lake and have decided to head towards Sturmtopp and the investigate the rumors that a dragon lives at it's peak.
New Items:
Strange Mirror: 1/long rest Bargle can spend 1 turn to look into the mirror. This creates a clone within 10ft of him that acts on his turn in initiative. They share the same HP and Spell slots. The clone must use the same actions/spells as Bargle otherwise the wild surge table must be consulted. Duration is 1 minute.
Tuning Fork: Allows King A to reroll 1 of his tuning die. He must use the new result
Large Worm in Jar: Enoch has psychically bonded with the worm in the jar. If he can successfully cram it into a creature skull (size Huge or larger) then he can control it
Telestone: (picked up by Alexander a few session ago). The user can teleport to the stones location as long as it is within 400 ft of the owner. It costs a bonus action to throw the stone and either your action or movement to teleport to it. Range is 60/120. for 65-120 roll a straight DC 10 (no mod). On a fail the stone lands the number you were off by behind the target. example you rolled an 8, then it lands 2 squares further than where you wanted it

Enoch: Who's a good girl?! Whose a good girl?!
Wyvern: hiiiiiiissssssss, screeeeeaaaaaach
Captain Alexander set sail down a narrow canal that would eventually lead them to a massive subterranean ocean. They were waylaid by a band of Goblins that tried to burn and loot the ship. King A was quick thinking and determined that if the boat was even more on fire they might not want it. When that plan didn't work the party set to dispatching the goblins and fire elementals, while Enoch used his breath weapon as an improvised fire extinguisher. King A spent the next several hours casting "mending" on the charred deck of the ship.
While in open ocean the ship was attacked by 2 wyverns. The party quickly dispatched with 1, bringing swift retribution from the much larger mother still perched on the caves ceiling. Ubba hitched a short ride with the mother while suddenly there were 2 Bargles which everyone wrote off as funny magic happenings and paid no mind. Ubba slowed his descent with his trusty Swiss Army Mimic as a parasol. Enoch decided his life was feeling empty and decided to fill the void with a pet. he quickly shoved the his mind control worm into the wyvern and brought it under control.
"The Good Ship: Kill First Ask Questions Later" arrived at a canal lock of sorts controlled by some Dwarves/Duegar. The parties first instinct was to invisibly infiltrate the gate house and murder the dwarves, but stopped short when Bargle talked with them and found that some Kobolds had infested the other gate house. Ubba manned the lever at gatehouse 1 while the rest of the party went to gatehouse 2 to clear out the infestation. King A put on a stunning show and literally stunned the Kobolds until the rest of the party was able to exterminate them. The last to fall was an oversize Kobold that seemed to recognize Enoch.
With the gates open the ship continued unabated to the dock of the Dwarven underground settlement of UnderPort.

Our heroes arrive in the thriving subterranean city of Underport. They sell their boat to the master of the shipyard (Briley) and go on a shopping spree in the town. They end the evening at the local tavern where Cupcake(the flumph formally known as Fartson) alerts Ubba to some unrest in the city . Ubba schmoozes Briley and they learn that mayor McAle has gone missing, most likely taken by the white kobolds that drove the dwarves from their surface home. The party offers to find the mayor in exchange for a sweet harness for the wyvern "Mittens". Tearfully Ubba and Enoch leave their pets in the capable care of Briley and the party heads upwards through the kobold infested drawven ruins.
The party quickly finds the entrance to a hidden dungeon bypassing a large pool of acid with Bargles quick use of mage hand. It quickly becomes clear the kobolds have set up a deadly obstacle course for their own amusement. False rugs cover pits, monsters are hidden in the floors and walls, and acrid poisons have been left in front of hidden doors all in order to sap adventurers of their strength. As each puzzle and obstacle is overcome gasps and applause emanate from small viewing ports in the walls. In some cases even laughter can be heard such as when King was encased by a rug of smothering and accidentally stabbed by the Alexander.
We leave the party after they unknowingly completed a ritual to summon a horde devils. Much to the enjoyment of the secretive kobold spectators the party skillfully dispatches of 4 devils while the 5th was slowly torn to pieces by a vicious whirlwind of animated porcelain tea cups. A few dried wilted roses were thrown from the viewing ports accompanied by whistles and cheers.

"You know what? From now on, not even guests can use the Guest Javelina"
We pick up with the party breaching another magically sealed door and entering a long hallway with 4 doors on the right side and 1 at the end of the hall. King opens the first door resulting in a cascade of brooms, mops and rusted weaponry falling out of a janitorial closet. The second door is opened carefully by Bargles mage hand. A polar bear lunges out from its cage and begins attacking the the party. King responds in kind by transforming into an "attractive looking polar bear" As the bear is dispatched the rusted swords from the closet begin flying around the hallway like tiny blenders. Enoch and Alexander skillfully grab several of the swords and break them on the floor. Bargle conjures an illusion of some rather enticing looking sheaths which distracts the swords and gives Ubba a window to swat one out of the air with his axe. Enoch, also enamored by the illusion reaches out to grab a sheath and firmly grasps the business end of the sword. he ignores the pain and smashed the sword off the ground. Alexander uses his frost rapier to deal with the final sword, the frozen sword freezes and shatters into hundreds of tiny shards. One of the remaining doors holds a lightening trap which shocks most of the party, especially the soaking wet polar bear. The final 2 doors hold the Mayor and the magic door to the next rooms.
The party unties the Mayor and make sure he is well equipped, with Ubba extending the use of the Guest Javelina. The party presses forward and enters a jail with several decaying skeletons and a bound and gagged mayor! To many gasps and munching of popcorn by the Kobolds, the doppelganger Mayor tagging along turns and stabs King,! The party quickly dispatches the impostor and King picks the lock freeing the actual (probably) Mayor. They decide it is best not to arm him and advise him to stay safely behind.
Keys cover the floor of a large arena with numerous view ports for the Kobolds to watch the unfolding epic battle. The keys skitter accross the floor and form 2 massive Iron Golems, one fueled by Cold Iron and the other by Molten Iron. The Cold one takes down King and Ubba and Enoch goes toe to toe with the Molten one, using his Ice breath to damage and slow the machine. Bargle, using his strange mirror spawns Gary and together they both Banish the Golems to give the party time to regroup. After healing up Bargle and Gary release the Golems one at a time to be dealt with individually. using the power of Teamwork (TM) the party dispatches of the threat to sudden stunned silence of the Kobold watchers...

Cautious at first Alexander sneaks down a corridor and slowly opens a door, accidentally ringing a bell alerting the kobolds to their presence. The party then splits and heads down different hallways to root out the kobolds.
Now this is where things get hectic as several events occur seemingly all at once. King was lighting fires under kobolds while frying out whirling blade motors with his immovable rod. Alexander is sniping several other kobolds including the one manning the ballista. Ubba opening a door and being shot in the face with said ballista. Enoch ripping the ballista off the wall and throwing it angrily into the still spinning whirling death blades. Bargle healing Ubba, then hearing Ubba almost immediately take a bath in acid. Bargle and King head down a long hallway chasing a lone kobold only to end up almost being plant food. Alexander saves them by "tele-fragging the plant in the mouth", literally. Enoch chases a kobold towards a dead end while Ubba angrily smashes osme pots holding ice mephits. Eventually everyone ends up helping with the ice mephits and they all make it back to Underport. Though I KNOW i forgot some stuff because there was definitely another golem that King, Alexander, and Ubba faught, but i can't even remember where the hell that fit in during the Rube Goldberg Machine of a session we had last week.
Anyway. You are all rested and safe in the town of Underport. Bargle and Gary got drunk and may have had a ménage à trois with some (female?) Dwarf(s?) while Ubba accepted a job. You guys are heading back through the Kobolds to reach the summit of the mountain and slay the Ancient White Dragon Icewing and retrieve a White gem for Professor Grant to the tune of 10,000 gold and the contents of a wooden box.

King(talking to Enoch, Ubba, and Alexander): Guys, I swear I saw a shark WITH gorilla arms.
Bargle (Sprouting gorilla arms just out of view): Any idea what he's talking about Gary? ... ... Me neither
The group freshly laden with health potions, heads up through the tunnels past the stronghold where they found Mayor McAle and onward towards the entrance of the Mines where they should be able to quickly ascend the mountain. Ubba masterfully identifies a trap floor and advises the rest of the party to avoid the spike filled pit. The path at the far end is caved in and they must find an alternate route.
They must pass through a set of double doors alternating right and left, dividing the group in half. The party had to deal with 6 stone statues and some unknown phantom attacker. After several rounds of combat, blinded by rage Ubba successfully strikes down the source of the statues powers and the remaining statues crumble to dust. The doors on the other side of the room slam open and the party is able to regroup and compare their experiences. The party encounters a section of cave that is flooded with knee high water, there are several Kobolds armed with Balls of Lightening at the ready. Ubba did a magnificent and flamboyant spin move into to the water and was greeted by a volley of Lightening Balls. After the initial lightening barrage the kobolds fell back while Enoch climbed the wall towards them and King flying snaked his way up the ledge. The Kobolds were able to score a few hits on King, changing him back, but the party quickly overwhelmed them.
Further down the passages an enormous steel ball was set against a large door. In order to move it the party had to clear out a storage room with boiled down to a roided up mega kobold. Enoch and Ubba made their way down the hallway and started to deal with the kobold, but ultimately it was King with a flourishing spin move somehow more flamboyant than Ubba's that took down the Kobold. With the Kobold threat dealt with they party set to work figuring out the mechanism to move the steel ball.
The party passed through an unused cafeteria and down another corridor that led to a completely flooded tunnel. Unable to construct a submersible vessel from the rotted tables and chairs the party resigned to holding their breath and swimming through the dark tunnel. King put on his shark pant one fin at a time and Enoch in a rare display of sneakiness donned his cloak of shadow before heading into the dark water. They party was quickly set upon by a group of Merrow. King as a shark was able to deal with the vast majority of the underlings, while Ubba handled the groups leader. While blasting one of the Merrow, Bargle sprouted several gorilla arms which went unnoticed by the group until they emerged from the water.
The group emerges from corridor into a large room with several tracks laid into the floor and several mine carts piled in the corner. There is an elevated water cistern that is leaking causing the tunnels to flood...

King (After animating Zoey Minechanel):
"I hope this doesn't awaken anything inside me"
After a quick rest, the group examines the mine carts and determines they are in good working order. Ubba volunteers to determine how they operate and after a brief but harmless mishap with the "go" lever, Bargle joins him atop his rock laden mine-cart and they tear ass down the track. While Alexander and Enoch are emptying their cart of rocks and aligning it to the track, King enchants his mine-cart with animate object, but the tables are soon turned as he is in fact enchanted by Zooey Minechanel
With Ubba leaning against the acceleration lever like a vagrant against a street pole, he and Bargle somehow manage to navigate several rock falls and turns by throwing themselves around the cart with varying levels of success. In an effort to reduce the weight of the cart Bargle discards the "extra" lever in the cart. After a rough turn they are pelted with rocks by several Kobolds, which promptly vanish in a puff of fiery death. Several small spiders and their webs meet a similar fate.
King and Zooey navigate the cave with much more ease. Zooey is familiar with the layout and is able to simply step over several obstacles. She and King take an earlier turn that appears to be a shorter route in hopes of catching up with their compatriots. They soon pass a wide tunnel where the tracks run parallel but there is no merge point. King frantically pics the middle track in an upcoming fork and insults a passing kobold to death in frustration. Around an upcoming bed, King notices a large spider illuminated by a flaming javelin
Alexander and Enoch are desperately trying to catch up with the rest of their party. Between Enochs strength and Alexanders agility they are able to navigate the tunnels with speed and precision. Noticing some dead kobolds on an broken overpass they determine their friends had gone that way. They tuck and roll out of the mine-cart and scale the framework of the overpass. They beat feet down the tunnel hoping to catch up with the rest of the party.
Ubba slays the last spider as they round the corner. Bargle sees Zooey and King, and after a mischievous "Do you trust me?", banishes the King and Zooey allowing them to pass by unharmed. Disoriented from the near collision Bargle and Ubba are unable to round the corner and derail into the wall, smashing the mine-cart and breaking Bargles concentration. King and Zooey reappear just in time to see the now empty mine-cart of Alexander and Enoch round the bend at full speed. King enlarges Zooey so she is able to absorb the impact with little damage, the other cart is obliterated on impact. The group takes a few moments to get themselves together and mourn the apparent loss of their friends Enoch and Alexander before piling into Zooey and heading down the track.
Alexander and Enoch are now running at a full sprint with Zooey Minechanel and her passengers hot on their heals. Cries of "we ain't afraid of no ghosts" echo throughout the tunnel system. Just in the nick of time Alexander and Enoch clear the mouth of the tunnel to reveal turnstile a bunch of pissed off kobolds. Zooey and her passengers slam on the brakes while Ubba jams a javelin into the wheels to slow them down before they are met with a deadly crash. The party quickly deals with the kobold threat with several being decapitated and the reminder being roasted in a mine-cart turned grill.
Enoch throws of his 'cloak of shadows' just as Ubba is about to stab the ghost impersonating Enoch. His tears of sadness turn to tears of joy as he puts all his pain and loss into a 'love punch to the face' of his barbarian besty. Laughter and hugs are shared as Zooey proudly announces "there is a man inside of me!" revealing Alexander hiding under a sheet pretending to be a ghost...
