Palestinian cities are facing growing environmental challenges, including limited green spaces, increasing waste production, and reduced public awareness about sustainable practices. At the same time, urban life often creates distance between people and the natural environment that once played a central role in everyday life.
Hawakirna was created to address these challenges through practical, community‑based solutions. Our projects transform overlooked urban spaces, household environments, and everyday practices into opportunities for environmental action and learning.
By connecting sustainability with daily life, Hawakirna encourages individuals and communities to take an active role in protecting the environment while strengthening their relationship with the land and with one another.
Through innovative local initiatives, we aim to demonstrate that meaningful environmental change can begin at the community level and expand into wider social impact.
Although Hawakirna is a young initiative, our projects are designed to create long‑term environmental and social impact within Palestinian communities.
Our work contributes to:
Expanding green spaces within dense urban environments
Promoting environmental awareness and education at the household and community level
Reducing organic and textile waste through sustainable practices
Encouraging circular economy solutions such as composting and reuse
Strengthening community participation and collaboration
Supporting vulnerable families through clothing redistribution initiatives
By combining environmental innovation with community engagement, Hawakirna seeks to build practical models for sustainable urban living that can grow and expand across Palestinian cities.
