Hawakirna was founded with a simple yet powerful idea: that meaningful environmental change can begin in the everyday spaces where people live.
In many Palestinian cities, rapid urban growth has reduced access to green areas and increased environmental challenges such as waste and limited ecological awareness. At the same time, many traditional practices that once connected people to the land—such as small home gardens and the concept of the hakoura—are gradually disappearing from urban life.
Hawakirna was created to reconnect communities with these values while introducing innovative approaches to sustainability suited for modern cities.
Through initiatives such as Balcona, Hakoura, and Hawana, Hawakirna transforms overlooked spaces—balconies, shared residential areas, and public collection points—into opportunities for environmental action, education, and community collaboration.
Our work brings together environmental responsibility and social impact. By encouraging people to grow plants at home, create shared urban gardens, and reduce waste through reuse and recycling, Hawakirna promotes practical solutions that individuals and communities can take part in every day.
At its core, Hawakirna believes that sustainable cities are built not only through large policies, but through the small actions of people working together. By empowering communities and reimagining urban spaces, we aim to create greener, more resilient, and more connected environments for future generations.
