3rd Ranger Battalion (CLOSED)

Following Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, the activation of the 3rd Battalion by the Department of the Army marked a significant milestone in Ranger history. In October 1984, the 75th Ranger Regimental Headquarters and 3rd Battalion were activated at Fort Benning, Ga., presenting the largest Ranger force since World War II. Their pivotal roles in conflicts such as Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989 and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan showcased their unwavering dedication to combat terrorism. Notably, their daring parachute assault onto Objective Rhino in Afghanistan in October 2001 and subsequent operations exemplify their courage and proficiency in special operations. Throughout the Global War on Terrorism campaign, the 3rd Battalion continued to demonstrate its resilience and effectiveness, contributing significantly to coalition efforts in both Afghanistan and Iraq until 2010, reflecting their enduring commitment to global security.
