Following the activation of the 1st Battalion (Ranger), 75th Infantry, in response to the need for a highly trained and mobile reaction force, General Creighton Abrams directed the establishment of a second battalion-sized Ranger unit in 1973. The 2D Battalion (Ranger), 75th Infantry, was activated at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., on Oct. 1, 1974. Undergoing rigorous training at Fort Moore, Ga., the battalion transitioned to world-wide deployable status after completing an externally evaluated battalion Army Training and Evaluation Program in December 1975. In subsequent years, they played pivotal roles in global conflicts, from Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983 to Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. Continuously supporting the War on Terror since 2001, the 2D Battalion has executed numerous historic missions in both Afghanistan and Iraq, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to national security.
