Uruk was the first city and was made about 5000 BCE. Uruk was one of the most important cities in ancient Mesopotamia. According to the Sumerian King List, it was founded by King Enmerkar in 4500 BCE. The city of Uruk is most famous for its great king Gilgamesh and the epic story of his quest for immortality. Uruk is also known for first developing civilization, writing, architecture, and other cultural innovations. Uruk is located in the southern region of Sumer and was known to have a language called Erech which helped develop the name Iraq.
The city was divided into two sections, the Eanna District and the older Anu District. It was dedicated to the goddess Inanna and her grandfather-god Anu. Uruk first held 40,000–50,000 people, and after another few hundred years it reached its peak of 50,000–80,000 inhabitants. after all the amazing innovations the city of Uruk eventually was conquered. after hundreds of years of a lot war, Sargon of Akkad conquered Uruk. It was one of the most powerful cities under the rule of ancient Hammurabi and King Nebuchadnezzar. King Nebuchadnezzar was a very powerful king that made Babylon expand. Even though he was a great king for Babylon he was not great to other cities and countries. King Nebuchadnezzar took over Syria and Palestine. He destroyed the temple of Jerusalem and put the Jewish population in captivity. Babylon’s reputation has been tarnished because of the many references to it in the Bible. The city appears critically in the books Jeremiah, Isaiah, and the Book of Revelation, and the story of Tower of Babel.

Nineveh was the capital of the powerful Assyrian Empire, even though Assyria was eventually conquered by the Babylonians, they were still one of the most powerful ancient civilizations.
Did you know that the king of Assyria, Sennacherib, lived in Nineveh? Nineveh used to be one of the busiest cities. For the Assyrians, it was like their version of New York. Since it was the capital of such a large nation, there was many different cultures and people there.
One of the most notable kings was Ashurbanipal. When he reigned, Assyria was one of the largest, if not the largest, kingdoms out there. At one point when Ashurbanipal ruled, Assyria even stretched all the way to Egypt. So how big is Nineveh be like today? Today, Nineveh is called "Mosul," And It stretches out 69.5 miles.
