Goal 1: Creating a Model

Goal

With my 3D Vermont team, we want to learn about and model some of the buildings in the downtown area of Springfield, VT.

Expectations

3D Vermont is a team competition. Here are the rules. We will be judged on historical context, presentation, and our 3D models. I am on the 3D model group and my goals will be how we will be judged:

3D Model(s)

    • The design process is shown in a detailed 3d printed model which is an accurate visual representation of the real building in the following ways.

    • The architecture details are clear (enhanced if necessary to be visible in the scaled 3D print, such as columns, railings, roof overhangs, door and window indents, etc...)

    • The major structural dimensions are proportionate (i.e. footprint and roof)

    • All printed models within the town are printed within the required scale parameters: Minimum footprint of 10 sq.in.

    • Team presents digital file cleanly rendered and photorealistic

Action Steps

  • Go into the downtown area and select buildings we deem "relevant" to the project and take pictures and measurements for our modeling. You can see some pictures of historic buildings in my town above.

  • Interpreting the measurements of the buildings into SketchUP.

  • Make the model in SketchUP.

  • Get filament, set up machine, convert files.

  • Set up schedule for when we will print.

  • Using the SketchUP model, create the 3D models using the 3D printer.

My teacher has created a Timeline and Workplan to help us make sure we get everything done in time for the contest. You can see it embedded below, or click on the link to open in a separate page.
