Meet the Maker Becky McDowell, Director of K-8 Science, Skokie, IL @bethechnge

LEGO Train Ornaments

@aaronmaureredu is also hosting a LEGO ornament challenge which can be found here. There are tons great build ideas and you can participate at any time. LEGO will be donating a LEGO set to a kid in need for every ornament shared on Twitter with the hashtag #BuildToGive.

Working LEGO WeDo Train

I found this special project build from the Ukraine company, Roborise-IT. My kids and I had so much fun building and modifying the original build and program. We even got out a second WeDo kit and built additional train cars. Four cars is the most we could get the motor to pull but we paired this with the book Steam Train, Dream Train which is a lovely melodic book that describes different types of train cars.

Teacher Notes If you want to try making a working LEGO train with students and don't want to download the Roborise-IT instructions then I recommend checking out the mechanism build ideas (lightbulb) in the Model Library of the WeDo 2.0 app. I think that students could create their own models using the Drive base build as a starting point.
