English WeCan, a joint venture of Project WeCan, aims at confidence building through academic pursuit on vocabulary and reading comprehension. Thanks to the sponsor of English WeCan, a Secondary Four student from our school joined an English Pilot Writing Programme organized by the South China Morning Post in August 2021.
In the programme, our student learnt from an experienced SCMP writer on different types of skills that are beneficial to writing and how to structure a story to attract the readers’ attention. Apart from story writing and telling skills, the student acquired practical skills of research, note-taking, organization and presentation. The student’s critical mindset of identifying sources and authenticating various forms of media was further developed. She was also given a tour of the SCMP office to learn about how a newspaper operates.
Student Reflections:
5A Patricia Wong
I am truly honoured to be given such an opportunity to join this programme. My English proficiency has greatly improved and the course has given me a new perspective of English learning. This programme is worth attending. Now I understand how to use my vocabulary items more appropriately. I would like to thank English WeCan and the SCMP for offering me such an opportunity to broaden my horizon. I would love to join other events organized by English WeCan and Project WeCan.
