Distortion

Suzanne Saroff:

In this photograph I can see a picture of a watermelon behind multiple glasses where the water reflects the watermelon from different angles. I can see that the lighting comes from the right side seeing as the shadow is pointed to the left.

Shoot #1:

WWW: I used Photoshop to change the reflection being projected by the mirror. The key light is positioned in front of the subject because the shadow is behind the subject.

EBI: I can improve on the positioning of the set and how the background doesn't fully include the backdrop. There are many distractions such as the chain for the backdrop, the window, and the equipment on the background.

For my next photoshoot, I will make sure to consider the background of the setting and carefully place the equipment I need.

Shoot #2

WWW: I made sure that the lighting stayed consistent by not adjusting the white balance

EBI: I kept having to re-adjust the tripod because I keep nudging the tripod which sometimes make the photo out of focus and I needed to fix the spots where the pictures don't align using Photoshop

For my next shoot, I will try to not adjust the tripod and I will try to experiment with different white balance presets.

Final Outcome:

These two pictures were taken in the restroom to provide a more natural setting where there are mirrors in the room. The pictures are very soft seeing as the shutter speed was slightly too slow. In the bottom middle of the screen there is a soap dispenser that intrudes the frame, and the subject's body is touching the frame. The light source coming from the roof highlights the texture and pattern of the tiled walls, and these tiles act as leading lines that direct our eyes to the subject. The reflection in the mirror is in the first third while the subject is in the other third, leaving a lot of negative space in the frame. The light source is coming from the top seeing as the catch light in the eyes is at the top and the reflection in the tiles. The reflection in the mirror is a bit darker seeing as I changed the shutter speed while taking photos. If I were to improve this shoot, I would make sure that the shutter speed is the same for all of the pictures to ensure that all photos are correctly exposed, and i would adjust the positioning to make sure that there are no distractions intruding into the frame and the subject doesn't touch the frame.
